1 short link is a service that (alas) I did not think of by myself. In fact, at the time I wrote the code, I knew of two other sites offering the same type of service.
The first, Make A Shorter Link, had a comment about source code being "released to the public once it's been tidied up a bit", but I wanted to see if I could write my own (and I'm an impatient mofo), so I went about creating this. I also thought it was important to have as short of a url as possible, but still have it make some sense... hence the birth of 1sl.net.
When I went to actually begin doing some coding, I did a quick search to see if anyone else had something similiar, and a I ran across DPDS's Short Link Service. It looked to be much the same thing with the addition of being able optionally specify your own key (no, I won't be coding that for 1 Short Link).
